Installing CentOS 7 Server

Domain name: example.com     Realm name: EXAMPLE.COM

Workgroup: EXAMPLE     Server IP address: xx.xx.xx.xx

Server name: linuxsvr01     Client name: linuxclnt01

Root password: ?Pa55w0rd!

This a minimum server installation using LVM (Logical Volume Manager) with xfs (file system) I have not included any screen captures of the process as it is a very intuitive installation.

INSTALLATION SUMMARY

This is the default screen for all configuration before installation

Software Selection

CLICK to open new window and tick the following
Base Environment = ✔ Minimal Install
and click DONE to return to INSTALLATION SUMMARY SCREEN

Network & Host Name

Choose the NIC you are going to use and configure it with a static IPv4 address, DNS servers etc
At bottom left of the screen you can set yourhostname (Use NETBIOS 15 character max name) eg. linuxsvr01
and click DONE to return to INSTALLATION SUMMARY SCREEN

Installation Destination

Choose the DISK you are going to use (tick mark shows) then choose either Automatic or Manual Partitioning of the disk. As we now use LVM to manage our disks there is less need to manually partition them as we can easily increase the size of the disk at any time.

There is perhaps one reason to manually partition the disk and that is to reduce the size of the home partition and redistribute it to the root partition, this is because as a server all data will probably be stored elsewhere. Automatic partitioning with a large disk gives an unreasonable amount to home partition.

Click DONE to return to INSTALLATION SUMMARY SCREEN

You can now click on BEGIN INSTALLATION

CONFIGURATION

Set ROOT PASSWORD ONLY at this time as when you join the Domain you will be able to use the your domain user name.
Install will now continue, when finished click on REBOOT
